'What's wrong with being drunk? Ask a glass of water.' You can't go wrong with a good Douglas Adams quote. But you can go very wrong if you wind up dehydrated during an event! To save you from the pain, the Cyborg has started a series of articles on how to stay hydrated during events.

It is an election year, so anyone in and around Canberra really should expect to see a bit of mud flying. However, on the 29th, the mud was going nowhere near Parliament House; it was being spread around north and west Canberra. And there was nary a politician to be seen-not even the newly-minted opposition leader, an avid rider, runner and swimmer-skills which would have come in remarkably handy during the inaugural Capital Punishment.

Residents of Wentworth Falls were alarmed to discover zombies roaming their streets on morning of 2 May, 2010; fortunately they weren't the dangerous, fast moving, angry zombies of movies such as 28 Days Later; not, these were the classic, slow-shuffling zombies in the Romero style. They were, however, slightly different; rather than shuffling along with their standard plea for "brains", these white-clad zombies were shuffling through the streets moaning "bacon.... bacon...." We sent our bravest, most intrepid investigative reporter to the scene, where some disturbing secrets were revealed.

At approximately 5:00 on Sunday, 2 May 2010, the mighty TriHards ran shoulder to shoulder across Katoomba Oval to the finish line for the Wild Endurance; completing the grueling 100km trek in 33 hours and two minutes. But, more importantly, they completed the event as a team of four, and all of them made it though the finishing arch at the same time, despite twisted ankles, broken toes and painful exit wounds.
Many, many thanks go out to our tremendous support crew, without whom we wouldn’t have stood a chance. We’d also like to thank all of our generous sponsors; completing the walk is only half the challenge of the event.

An often-overlooked aspect of Adventure Racing is the opportunity it provides competitors to see and experience new locations. And the ultimate race in the AROC Paddy Pallin series for 2009-10 was no different. The team at AROC had headed out to Port Stephens, found some of the most spectacular views and experiences, and then formulated a course that took much of them in!

Why the TweeHards I hear you ask? Well The Cap'n is an experienced TriHard and the girls (The Pinkinator and Lu) are ever so cute, dainty and/or delicate, so it just sort of made sense.

Sure, they could have gone hard and set out to win the event, however, that would spoil their leisurely ride down memory lane!

The TriHards' partners have stepped up and are providing tremendous assistance to a truly worthy cause. These ladies are making the ultimate sacrifice for the month of Movember, not only in being seen in public with the TriHards sporting their attempts at mos, but facing the grim prospect of beard rash as the month goes on. Then again, considering the state of the TriHards after most of their races, perhaps this provides an easy excuse to avoid intimacy.

With a total time of 46 minutes and 30 seconds and only one wrong turn after setting out, I was feeling pretty smug. I had made it to Davidson High School in French's Forest where I was to get my first taste of a "real" orienteering event in the Sydney Summer Series. The rules are fairly simple: you have 45 minutes to collect as many checkpoints as you can, walking, running or mountain biking, you can take longer, incurring a time penalty if you do. I collected my map, checkpoint description sheet and card and departed at 16:43 sprinting off to my destiny!!!

As I'm sure the staff of TriHards sponsor PANDSI would agree, braving the great outdoors with a baby or toddler is one of the best ways to shake off the baby blues. It's a chance to get some fresh air and exercise and allow the hollering of your offspring to dissipate into the atmosphere. Somehow, being out of the house can just make things that little bit easier for both parents and babies, especially if you take along some friends to help out. However, to fully enjoy the experience, a little planning makes all the difference.

Here at the TriHards, we’re constantly amazed at the fitness level of some groups who enter into the various events we do. If you look at the results, particularly of the AROC races, as a histogram (no, we are not geeks!) you’ll see that the results never have the standard bell curve style of distribution. Rather, there is a small lump at the front, then a more normal looking bell curve. These people at the front are those we affectionately call freaks.

On a cool, crisp Canberra morning the TriHards smashed their own personal best records in two events of the Mother's Day Classic. The Immoral Support Crew (with her moral supporters) achieved a personal best (without stopping for a single toilet break or coffee) in the 5km event, and the Cyborg dispelled rumours of his insanity by completing the 10km event in his own personal best time (despite following hallucinations and having odd conversations with the voices in his head).

The most common response received when the TriHards would tell people of their intention to participate in the Wild Endurance was a simple, "You're insane."; Now that the event is done, and the TriHards are resting their weary feet, they would tend to agree with this opinion! Of the four TriHards entered into the event, Magic McFly was the only one to complete the entire event; a tremendous effort on his part! The Wild Endurance also marked a tragic turn of events for the TriHards-the Sydney branch soundly bested the Canberra branch-an achievement that will no doubt take a long, long time to live down.
