2011 marks the 37th running of the Great NOSH footrace. And you know what that means, don’t you? That’s right, the race is in it’s prime!
Run or walk on a traffic-free course from Lindfield Oval via Roseville Bridge to Seaforth Oval through some of Sydney’s most spectacular bushland. The course is 15km, mostly on bush tracks and fire trails, with some steep sections. Proceeds from the event go to the NSW Orienteering Association to assist in running our sport.

Hundreds of competitors stood around unaware as history was made last weekend at the third race in the 2010-11 AROC Paddy Pallin series. At approximately 2:00 on Saturday, 12 February 2011, the long-held aspirations of the Area51 (aka Sydney) TriHards were realised. Months, if not years, of preparation, training and persistence had finally paid off; they had finally beaten the Canberra TriHards in an AROC Paddy Pallin event. Subsequently shouts of jubilation could be heard from as far away as New Zealand, where McFly’s relatives put down their sheep and picked up their beers to toast their favourite son’s victory.
The Cap’n (aka the Six Minute Man) has also been heavily involved in the Runners Shop Twilight Series, and now he’s writing his own reports! Read on for another point of view in this fantastic series!

The third and final article in the Cyborg’s hydration series: packs! Want to know what to look for in a good adventure racing hydration pack? Want to know how to look after it? And, just for good measure, the Cyborg throws in some reviews of his favourite packs!
... Find out all you need to know about hydration packs now! ...

As the TriHard responsible for destroying the most bladders, the Cyborg is also the one most qualified to discuss their various aspects. After all, he’s owned (and trashed) just about every type of drinking bladder out there!

Every man has his nemesis; a person that drives them, pushes them, forces them to do their best. They can be an enemy - the Joker to Batman; a rival-Sly Stallone to Arnold Schwarzenegger; even friends-Canbera TriHards to Sydney TriHards. Junior is the Cyborg’s nemesis. That one competitor he cannot seem to catch; who resides just out of his reach.
McFly submits his first race report to the TriHards site, covering the Shellharbour AROC in October. Yes, it’s very late - this is not the fault of the fleet McFly, it was due to an editorial backlog.
Mr GPS reviews the MacPac Koala - Mini-Miss GPS’s vehicle of choice on all of her adventures!
The Stromlo Running Festival is a fantastic weekend for all things running. It includes a stack of great events including trail runs, orienteering, a 1.2km “sprint” and the mountain run! There is a great atmosphere at the festival, which also includes camping for the out-of-towners, meals, and a number of workshops and seminars from running luminiaries.
The Cyborg attended last year and highly recommends the event (even though he’s not a runner!)
With all this wet weather, being able to quickly dry your shoes is a great advantage. We share our tips!
We went on the waterslide! We went on the waterslide! We went on the waterslide!
Not to be out-done by their Sydney counterparts, the Canberra TriHards have undertaken their version of the Summer Series, the Runners Shop Twilight Series! Well, that, and the fact that it’s time some of the TriHards finally learn how to navigate.
For those who don’t know, Sydney Summer Series is a series of 26 Wednesday afternoon orienteering events around the northern half of Sydney. You are given a detailed A4 map of the area and can study it for as long as you like. There are 30 control points marked on the map worth 10, 20 and 30 points each. You also get descriptions of where the control is, like “North-East fence corner” or “path intersection”, and a scorecard where you write down the letter code of each of the controls you visit. You have only 45 minutes to visit as many controls as your body can and are docked 10 points for every minute you are late back, so you have to plan your route carefully. The Orienteering Association of NSW have an excellent website at www.sydneysummerseries.com.au.
Never try new gear on race day!

No, “Big D” is not a new burger, he’s our newest addition to the TriHards. He likes long rides on the beach, and leisurely bushwalks through coastal environs...
The Big D joined the TriHards for the first race in the AROC Paddy Pallin 2010-11 series in Shellharbour as part of the Canberra TriHards. Now he’s hooked, and is never looking back! We welcome the Big D to the collective!
Two years ago, the TriHards commenced the Paddy Pallin series with a single team. Last year they started with two teams: the Canberra TriHards and the Area51 (Sydney) TriHards. This year, we fielded three teams! If we keep going like this, in approximately 197 years, the race wll consist of only TriHards teams! That makes our aspirational goal of podium placement completely possible!

One team almost reached podium, another won a prize, in the first race of the 2010-11 Paddy Pallin series! Read all about our adventures!
The TriHards took delivery of their brand new, clean, white uniforms just in time for the first race in the AROC Paddy Pallin series for 2010-11 in Shellharbour.

The good people at Embroid It & More sourced a wide range of clothes and accessories and printed them for us. We now have TriHards jackets, shirts, singlets, bike jerseys, caps and the all-important drink bottles! No doubt you’ll see all the gear - or at least photos of it - over the coming months packed full of events.
We highly recommend the people at Embroid It & More, they were very flexible in delivery what was really a small order, and with very vague designs.
The date for the 2010 Urban Polaris has been announced, and this year the wise people at the MHF have moved the event to the first Saturday of December (4th), to allow everyone heaps of time to recover before returning to work. We’ve fielded teams in 2009 and 2008 and had some great fun along the way!
It’s a fantastic event, and as with many of these events, only as hard as you want it to be, but always great fun.

The Capital Punishment had tempted me into the dark ways of the mountain bike. The Husky pulled me ever deeper into the dark side. Then, the Angry Doctor came to complete my training in the dark ways of the forest. Not being all that eager to surrender my soul, and having little faith in my apprentice abilities, I undertook the Irate Intern - the 50km version of the event. I’d still sample their sweet, sweet single track, but only have to do half of the ascents. But fate, and the AROC weather curse intervened, and I was saved from total mountain bike damnation.
This year the TriHards moved away from their phalanx attack on the City to Surf, and went with more guerilla tactics, sending in three of their best runners to beat the course.
And beat it they did! With McFly completing it in 64:33. the Little Engine in 77:26 and Doc Runaway in 79:32!
The Sydney TriHards have definitely thrown down the gauntlet to the other TriHards teams intent on entering the Paddy Pallin series - there will be no 20 seconds this year!

“What’s wrong with being drunk? Ask a glass of water.” You can’t go wrong with a good Douglas Adams quote. But you can go very wrong if you wind up dehydrated during an event! To save you from the pain, the Cyborg has started a series of articles on how to stay hydrated during events.
