No, no, you did read that correctly. The TriHards did their bit for Australia’s hopes for mountain biking in the London Olympics, 2012. They worked, they suffered, they lost litres and litres of sweat and, well, had a great time at the DuoClassic - a mountain bike fundraiser for Bec and Ben Henderson’s London Olympics bid.
Do you know where Lady Jessie Street was born? How about who opened the Carillon? Or who planted the “Lone Pine” tree near the Australian War Memorial? More importantly, did you know you can find the answers to all of these - and more - questions merely by riding around Canberra on your bike? It is a great shame that if you were to ask many Canberran locals when the last time they visited one of the fantastic - and free - public institutions scattered about this town, most of them would say never, or not since the last time out-of-towners visited.

Never try new gear on race day!
A race so big, the title doesn’t even fit in the page properly! Late in November, the TriHards took part in a 24 hour marathon event. One which didn’t involve running, or riding. But kayaking. Twenty-four hours of kayaking! What could be better?

After coming second last in his division in the Sri Chimnoy Black Mountain off-road duathlon long course, the Cyborg was determined to return, in better form, in the Sri Chimnoy Googong challenge.
This time he was prepared. This time he had a plan. This time there would be paddling!
... Find out where he came here ...
When the TriHards first attempted the Canberra Times Fun Run back in 2007, they undertook it as a training run for their “real” events in the AROC Paddy Pallin Adventure Race series. In 2008 they got a bit more serious, and completed the whole run non-stop. 2009 saw a mix of ages and long and short course entries scatter them throughout the field and in 2010 the Cyborg was the only TriHard flying the banner, achieving a personal best time despite several setbacks.
But in 2011 it became personal. In 2011 it became competitive. In 2011 the Cyborg realised a long-held dream.

Rumours have recently been spreading throughout the TriHards that one of their ranks has been engaging in the unethical, uncompetitive and just plain cheating behaviour of blood doping. Even more of a concern is the fact that it does not seem to have improved his results in the least!

2011 marked the second running of the Back Yamma Bigfoot, making it’s home near Parkes, which isn't too far from half the TriHards’ stomping grounds. Engine, always being one for efficiency, thought he could kill two birds with one stone: see his father on Father’s Day (albeit it for about five minutes early in the morning) and squeeze in some adventure.
... Want to see if the Cyborg can complete a bike race without falling off? ...

In 2010 the Cyborg brought his shiny new Giant XTC 29er for a fast, fantastic, sunny ride around Jervis Bay in the Husky; where he exceeded his expectations and completed the 50km event in under 3 hours! This year, the organisers planned a handicap for him.
10kg of mud.
... Is mud really good for the complexion? Find out here! ...

Planes coming from the south to land at Canberra Airport on the evening of 9 April may have become quite confused in their approach. For, just to the east of Canberra Airport, thousands of red lights flashed through the night. But these were no ordinary landing lights; they were cycling tail lights, fallen from their owners and illuminating the singletrack for thousands of riders in the Mont.
And among these thousands of riders rode the Cyborg, who isn’t known for his ability to ride in the dark, or the rain.
The Cyborg is a fool for April, starting the month with the fantastic final race in the Paddy Pallin series in Newcastle, following it up with two runs in the Canberra Running Festival, then ducking off for a ride in the Mont, to be washed down the weekend after with a dive at Broulee and a paddle on the Clyde at the last weekend. Here at TriHards headquarters, we can’t help but wonder if perhaps his little health scare from earlier in the year has put him of a mind to try to fit everything in before anything else happens; or perhaps he fears if he stops he’ll rust!

The TriHards have been travelling to the Newcastle area to compete in the Paddy Pallin series for a few years now, so have gained a great deal of experience booking into accommodation and become familiar with the surrounds. Indeed, Father Brendan has moved up on a permanent basis to fulfil the role of TriHards Central Coast High Commissioner. Needless to say, with all this practice and familiarity with the area, the accommodation and logistics went off like clockwork, even considering the ever-expanding TriHards teams!
... Pity the same can’t be said for the races!
I have been a naughty boy. I have been a very, very naughty boy. I deserved to be punished. And not just punished, but severely punished. Not being into self-flagellation, I turned to the team I knew could punish me properly: the dedicated people of AROC. And they certainly didn’t disappoint!
I should tell you my sins, so that you know I did really deserve the penance meted out to me by AROC and their Capital Punishment. Please don’t judge me harshly - I am, after all, only human and full of human flaws and frailties. I too suffer the same daily temptations and doubts as everyone else. Which leads me to my greatest sin.
